How St. Joseph County Court Calendars Work
St. Joseph County spreads its calendar across more than one surface. The county Courts page posts a link for Circuit and Superior daily dockets. For case summaries and events, Indiana MyCase is the free state portal. Indiana Administrative Rule 9 applies to trial courts. It requires them to publish daily calendars in electronic or another form. Each entry must carry the case number, caption, hearing date, time, and location.
The daily docket covers a single court day. A Chronological Case Summary, the CCS, tracks one case over time. The two records overlap, yet neither copies the other. MyCase may list an event or an "appear by" date. A daily docket groups matters by room, court, or judge. Bailiffs maintain the morning and trial calendars, update court files, assign dates, and send notices. When displays disagree, the newest official notice controls.
St. Joseph County Daily Docket Routes
For a day's Circuit or Superior settings, the local daily-docket link is the best view. Reach it through the official county page rather than guessing a direct address. MyCase serves a different need. It works better once you know a name or case number and want the full event trail.
Each division keeps its own schedule. Circuit, Superior civil, felony, traffic and misdemeanor, small claims, Probate, and Walkerton Town Court share no single room or phone line. A case code of 71J01 points to Probate. A case code of 71I01 points to Walkerton. The identifier routes the case; it is more than a label.
St. Joseph County Court Date Lookups
When a hearing carries real consequences, check more than one channel. Online results are fast. A clerk or court contact, though, can resolve a room mix-up, a moved date, or an event that has not yet appeared online. Court staff give public schedule facts. They cannot give legal advice.
- Open the county daily docket or MyCase. In MyCase, search by case number, name, or citation and limit results to St. Joseph County or Walkerton Town Court.
- Open the summary. Read the newest event and note the court code, setting type, date, time, and place.
- Compare it with the paper or electronic notice. An e-file notice may help a party, but e-filing is not the public calendar.
- If a field is missing, call the assigned court. The general Clerk line is 574-235-9635.
- At the courthouse, ask the filing clerk about the posted docket or any public workstation offered. A self-service terminal is not promised in county text.
You can also request a date-specific public calendar from the court or clerk. State the date and the court with reasonable detail. Note that the county APRA form serves agency records, not confidential court settings.
St. Joseph County Hearing Buildings
A court name alone does not always pick the building. Courthouse 1 at 101 S Main Street holds Circuit work. It also handles Superior civil matters and some traffic or misdemeanor trials. Courthouse 2 at 112 S Lafayette Boulevard handles the main misdemeanor work. It covers South Bend small claims too. Felony cases sit in Courthouse 3 at 129 S Main Street. Courthouse 4 at 219 Lincolnway West in Mishawaka holds a plenary docket. It also takes Mishawaka small claims.
Probate and juvenile matters route to the Juvenile Justice Center at 1000 S Michigan Street. Walkerton Town Court sits at 301 Michigan Street. Assignments vary, so the case notice remains the best source. The county directions page lays out the downtown buildings.

The county travel source helps you match a setting to the right site. Still, it cannot replace the room printed on the newest notice.
Court Settings: What Each Field Means
Read a setting line field by field. "Appear by" can mark a response deadline rather than a hearing. A filing date only says when a case began, not when court meets next.
| Case number | The full identifier, including the St. Joseph court code and case type. |
|---|---|
| Date and time | The start, which may be a group docket call or individual setting. |
| Location | The courthouse, room, city, or remote place stated by the court. |
| Judge or court | The assigned officer or division when shown. |
| Setting type | Arraignment, pretrial, motion, status, trial, sentencing, probate, family, traffic, or small claims. |
| Status | Scheduled, held, continued, reset, vacated, or cancelled. |
An event label gives context, not the whole story. A notice or order may explain it, though online document access varies by case code.
St. Joseph County Setting Terms
Short calendar terms each carry a distinct meaning. Read them against the newest CCS entry and the filed notice.
- CCS
- The Chronological Case Summary, Indiana’s event-by-event docket.
- Continuance
- A court-approved move to a later date, not a dismissal.
- Vacated
- A prior setting was removed. Check for a replacement.
- Status hearing
- A check on progress rather than a full trial.
- Appear by date
- A response deadline that may not require a courtroom appearance.
The labels describe process, not outcome. A scheduled hearing does not show who won.
When a St. Joseph Court Date Moves
A judge may continue, reset, vacate, or cancel a setting. The change should appear as a newer CCS event or calendar line. Web timing can lag a signed order. Read from the newest event backward, and never trust an old notice when a later entry exists.
If the date vanished, check MyCase and the daily docket first. Then call the assigned division or your lawyer. Superior civil uses 574-235-5485. Circuit uses 574-235-9551. South Bend small claims uses 574-235-9794, and Mishawaka small claims uses 574-256-6215. The notice should identify the right line. A missing date does not prove dismissal.
Note: A reset changes the next event; it does not erase earlier entries from the St. Joseph County CCS.
St. Joseph County Calendar Boundaries
Not every local matter lands in one system. South Bend ordinance citations may start in the city Ordinance Violations Bureau. Walkerton has the county's current town court. Federal cases belong to the Northern District of Indiana, not MyCase. For federal docket and calendar access, PACER is the official portal. It sits outside the county systems entirely.

PACER helps only after you confirm the case is federal. The Northern District directions page gives South Bend arrival details.

That source aids travel, while the federal docket remains the authority for the setting.
St. Joseph County Court Arrival Plans
Getting to the right building on time takes some planning. The St. Joseph County courthouse keeps weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Holidays can close the doors. Parking is a separate puzzle. Downtown lots each follow their own rules. A private lot may tow your car, so check the signs before you leave the vehicle. The Mishawaka facility is easier, with a free public lot behind the building.
Security adds time too. The Juvenile Justice Center runs screening at the door. Weapons are barred, and phones must be off inside courtrooms. Recording is prohibited; county guidance restricts recording devices in courthouses generally. Bring your notice and give yourself room to find the correct entrance. None of this changes where your case sits. It can spare you a late arrival.
One more wrinkle: the building depends on the setting, not just the case type. Traffic and misdemeanor work may use Courthouse 2 for clerk service. Trials in those cases may sit in Courthouse 1. Small claims can sit in South Bend or Mishawaka. Read the setting on your notice rather than guessing the building from the charge.
Missed St. Joseph Settings
Missed a St. Joseph County setting? Move fast. Pull the latest docket event, call the assigned court, and reach the attorney on the case; ask about public schedule facts and anything entered after the missed date, because a new date is never granted by assumption.
Missed a setting? A court may issue a failure-to-appear entry, warrant, fee, or another order.
Call the assigned St. Joseph County court or Clerk promptly and seek legal advice about the next step.
Walkerton asks citation holders to wait one week after issuance before calling. It charges a late-payment fee. That intake delay is not permission to skip a date printed on a ticket. Use the court line on the notice and confirm your status before you appear.
Consequences vary by case type. A criminal or infraction docket may log a failure-to-pear event. A civil matter can move ahead without one party or draw a different order. Small-claims, probate, and family settings each belong to their assigned court. So ask what the public docket shows now instead of guessing from the missed date alone. If a warrant or urgent order could be out there, get legal advice. Do that before walking into a courthouse.
Write down the call details: who you reached, which office, and any new date given. Then watch for the later written notice or CCS entry. A phone call can point you to the next step. It does not change the record itself. When the new entry appears, check the site as well as the time. St. Joseph County spreads work across four county courthouse locations, the Juvenile Justice Center, and Walkerton Town Court.
